The Kite Runner, The movie
Yeh you read the title right, there's going to be a film adaptation of the book, My sister first told me, she hasn't read it herself but she knew i had read the book, seeing as it was my permanent companion for several days. At first i was shocked, how are they going to portray such images that are conjured by the book in a film, where real people are acting it out?. It reminded me of the film Sleepers, which also is a film adaptation of another harrowing book, as both books have several simillar aspects (i'm trying not to give away too much from either book but those who have read both will know what i mean).
Now as we all know film adaptations rarely include every aspect of the book, and thats what kind of got me about the film adaptation of TKR, practically every page is vital to the understanding of the book, how can they not include all of it in the film? In Sleepers the more disturbing scenes were suggested/implied to the viewer rather than showing the actual scene take place, i suppose they could do a simillar thing in TKR...
I decided to watch the trailer for TKR (which can be seen here), the first thing that shocked me was the fact that it was a PG-13, i definitely would not allow a 13 year old to read the book ( a sign that the film doesn't include some of the more disturbing/upsetting parts of the novel). However the casting seems brilliant, especially the two main characters and the setting and everything seems perfect too. Yet i still have my doubts about the film, i don't really think it will do the book justice, perhaps it's because the book creates such intense emotion in the reader, it's going to be hard to beat it. I'm curious to watch it though, however i can't say i won't be biased against it....

I'm reading the book at the moment. It's really good. One of the best books I have ever read. I can't wait for the movie. I agree with you that it will be really difficult to do justice to the book but I'm still excited!
Haven't actually read it yet (it's the next one on my list though after finishing all 7 HPs, on 3 at the mo) but the film looks amazing. We should watch it together :)
Re: your comment about PG-13's: I discovered Sleepers when I was 13 but actually read it when I was about 14, I perhaps didn't understand it as much (I found it it to be more disturbing second time round) but I just want to say give 13 year olds a little more credit!
whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat no! 1st narnia then northen lights and now they want to take kite runner away from me! I hate it when they turn a book in 2 a film im compelled to go watch it knowing it won't live up to the book...why can't people just read the book - reading isn't that hard!
Ymiss, I know what you mean about films that are adaptations of books, this year especially there seem to be a huge number of them. I love films but even I'm starting to tire of these for 2 reasons:
1. What's happened to originality? We need a new Se7en, Usual Suspects or Donnie Darko but we just don't have one yet because nothing Hollywood is releasing is original any more
2. I worry that people will soon tire (especially of childrens) adaptations and won't give them a chance. A shame because theres so many decent series out there that won't be given a chance, for example there's one coming out soon called the dark is rising and the trailer looks awful but I was told by someone that its actually a really good series. I'm sure there'll be plenty of people out there that will have the same reaction as me to many films and so won't give the book a chance when in actual fact its completely different to the film.
Hmm, maybe I should have done a post on this instead...
ROAR:(i love that acronym (if thats what its called...) thanks for dropping by indeed it is one of the best books i've ever read too...
MISHY:i agree it does look like a good film but i just don't think it will be good enough though...of course we can watch it togther :)
Re: the 13 thing i know what you mean by giving them credit but i just can't with this book, the author is so damn good at his job that every word can be pictured in your mind. Not all of these are good pictures and i just wouldn't want a 13 year old to have those images in their mind. I read the book a few weeks ago but the images still haunt me when someone mentions kite runner cus it was soo vivid! (Ymiss back me up :)) if there was a rating system on books i'd probably give this a 15...
YMISS: tell me about it.....
MISHY: I was thinking the exact same thing, when i watched transformers.... this year it's either been sequels (trequels??)adaptations, or remakes hollywod definitely need to be more original, when my sis told me there was shrek 3 and they were gunna have a baby i really thought she was kidding until i saw it for myself...same with rush hour 3 theres only so many films that can be made with the same characters rush hour 3 is another one i'm not really looking forward to but prob see it anyway!!
