Learning to embroider #2

Exams are finished (finally), so apart from 3 1000 word essays due in next Monday blogger has my undivided attention for a while, thus i will be updating quite regularly for a few weeks because... well i have alot of stuff to blog about. But first things first Learning to embroider part 2 ( part 1 is here).

I didn't really get to do much cause of exams, but i did purchase an embroidery hoop and some proper embroidery needles which made my work MUCH neater. The needle i had before was abit too chunky for embroidery, i only used it because it was the only needle in the house that had a big enough eye to fit embroidery thread through. Sooo...

First i did a border on the two remaining borderless edges, i took this from the blue border i did on LTE #1, it was the first two steps, i like the simplicity of them on their own...

Next i used a design from the book, which was numbers, i like the style of these, but i changed the colours from the book:

Since scanning this i've also added a little frame around the numbers

That's about it really, but i have started embroidering again, as of last night and my white piece of fabric is filling up nicely, so LTE #3 will be much more interesting

Awww it looks cute.

Are you doing all these on one piece of cloth?

yep one piece of white cloth a few inches smaller than A4, i thought it would be interesting to fill it up and then stick on a wall somewhere, like a mini piece of art type thingy

As-salaamu'alaykum wa Rahmatu Llahi wa Barakatuhu my dearest sister,

Yaaayyyyy.. you back to embroidering! Masha'Allah, masha'Allah. I like how the numbers turned out.

I am happy you were able to get some embroidery tools..yes, I can imagine how much better it is to work with them.

I like your idea of using your piece of fabric as an art display :) It will also, oneday work as "that's what I started with"..hehe

If you up for a bigger project, maybe try getting a prayer outfit ..or a burqa, and use that as your 'canvas'. I've seen it done a longgg time ago, and it looked so pretty.

Jazak'Allah for sharing. Look forward to seeing more of your work, insha'Allah.

Wa'alaykum as-salaam
Love Farhana

PS: good luck on the essays.. (urgh..essays were the worst thing I had to do in school..gives me nightmares)

Farhana: Salam, haha yeh after a short break i'm back to embroidering, i like the numnbers to, i love the style, Yep it's definitely better and makes the work much neater. Haha yeh it will work as a "thats what i started with..." a little momento of how bad i was lol. I'm actually reading memoirs of a giesha at the moment and the kimonos are described so vividly with gorgous scenes printed across them, in was thinking od doing something similar with embroidery, but i think i'm going to start a bit small though, i was thinking of making a laptop cover and embroidering a design on that. Thanks for the luck i need it!! i never learn i always leave them till the last minute, only 5 months or so left and i'll be free!!

Ymiss: yeh i remember you told me about it once, it sounds really good i bet it took ages!!
